About

Stefan Gates is a food adventurer and award-winning writer/TV presenter renowned for his perceptive, witty and unconventional approach to food and cooking. He particularly loves extraordinary food. His food and travel books and TV series have won awards including Best TV Series at the Bologna Food on Film Festival, and his documentaries all have huge international sales, showing in over 30 countries.

Stefan wrote and presented Cooking in the Danger Zone (BBC2), travelling to the most difficult and dangerous places on earth to find out how people survive. It has been immensely popular both in the UK and internationally. He presented prime-time magazine show Full on Food (BBC2) and hundreds of episodes of studio show Food Uncut (UKTV Food).

Gastronuts is a kids' food adventure show Stefan Gates developed for the BBC and the second series has just finished a hugely successful run on BBC1. His food/travel series Feasts (BBC4) took him to the greatest feasts on earth, and has also sold across the world. Stefan has just finished E Numbers: An Edible Adventure (BBC2), an extraordinary mythbusting food science series and he has also written an accompanying book.

Stefan Gates chairs corporate events, hosts award dinners, performs cookery demos, writes for newspapers and magazines and regularly appears on radio and TV shows as a guest. Stefan has written five books, the latest of which is The Extraordinary Cookbook (Kyle Cathie) on unforgettable food adventures. He wrote the outrageous, eclectic Gastronaut (BBC Books), In the Danger Zone (BBC Books) and 101 Dishes to Eat Before You Die (Parragon). Stefan loves wild culinary quests and extraordinary food adventures.

Performance

GASTRONAUGHT SHOW
Stefan’s famous Gastronaut science and food shows for 100-2,000 are simply unforgettable.

As well as the sheer excitement of a BBC TV star visiting school and chatting to students, the shows are packed full of inspiring, explosive science, and wild food adventures. They are renowned for their energy and interactivity - Stefan headlines stadium-style shows at the Big Bang Fair (UK’s biggest science fair), major science and food festivals and also visits schools across the UK. Every show is a mix of solid education and brilliant entertainment to inspire fascination with science and adventurous, healthier eating. Stefan’s always happy to hang out for an hour afterwards for photos, to chat with students and sign autographs or books. And every show comes with a brilliant showpack of food adventure tools, books and practical experiments.

Stefan performs custard-powder flamethrowing, corn biofuel explosions and rockets, fries an egg on a piece of paper, conducts a vegetable orchestra and if you’re lucky you’ll get to try his insects, jellyfish salad and bum sandwiches.

The shows are for adults and kids alike and are specifically designed to blow apart the preconceptions that people have about food, to make people think again about what they put in their mouths and to encourage them to become more adventurous eaters. They are funny, outrageous and fascinating but with a solid basis of food chemistry, sustainability and nutrition.
