Former England rugby player and broadcaster Brian Moore is one of the most famous England rugby players of all time, winning a total of 64 England caps between 1987 and 1995.
Brian started his career as an amateur senior for Nottingham where during his time, he won his first England caps and toured Australia with the British and Irish Lions.
His crooked front teeth, described by England colleague Paul Rendall as “the kind you get from a DIY shop and hammer in yourself”, purveyed a "don't mess with me" image that left many an opponent quaking in his boots. Notorious on the pitch for winding up opposition forwards in the scrum, Brian was always willing to throw himself whole-heartedly into the thick of the action.
Brian was a mainstay of the England team during his International career, missing just 4 of 66 Internationals from his debut against Scotland in '87 until his final game versus France in '95. Having been a vocal critic of referees for many years, he took the Rugby Football Union's Entry Level Referee Award course and qualified as a referee in 2010.
Brian ‘The Pitbull' Moore belongs to the band of rugby players who are almost as well-known by their nicknames as by their given names, but the true origins of the hooker's nickname are somewhat unclear. He is now a broadcaster and equally as fierce as he was when he was playing, now that he reports for the BBC and national press about the game he loves.
Brian’s updated version of his autobiography, Beware of the Dog, won the 2010 William Hill Sports Book of the Year award, among what was described as one of the strongest shortlists ever assembled.
In 2011 it won the Best Autobiography award at the British Sports Book Awards. Brian has also published The Thoughts of chairman Moore, and More Thoughts of chairman Moore (2011). He has been a regular invitee at leading UK literary festivals like Hay, Keswick, Dartington Hall, Salisbury and Wimbledon, invariably speaking to large audiences.
Having originally trained as a solicitor, gaining an LLB (Hons) degree and eventually becoming a partner in two law firms, Edward Lewis LLP and Memery Crystal LLP, Brian carried on as a practising solicitor throughout his entire rugby career.
The Pitbull, as he is affectionately known, was the archetypal front-row rugby player and incredibly persistent on the pitch and known for never letting go.
When giving his after dinner speeches, Brian Moore has plenty to say about the changes which have occurred with professional status and the evolving rules which don’t necessarily sit well with his legal mind.
The former solicitor is brutally honest about his views and is a great raconteur.
Brian can speak to a wide range of corporate organisations and industries; tailoring each speech to the client’s individual requirements. As such, his speeches vary from purely after dinner entertainment to a formal keynote presentation, and anything in between.
