Dr Onyeka Nubia is a pioneering and internationally recognised historian, writer and presenter who is reinventing our perceptions of British history, British mythology, Black (African) British history, intersectionality, and the Renaissance.
He has helped to shape entirely new strands of history including diversity in Ancient, Medieval, Tudor, and Georgian societies, as well as Victorian and Edwardian Britain. Onyeka is one of a small group of dynamic scholars who are examining the methodologies and critical framework of colonialism, imperialism, otherness, and national identity. Onyeka is also interested in re-historicising our understanding of World Wars I and II.
Onyeka has been a consultant and presenter for several television programmes including the Walking Victorian Britain series (Channel 5), Digging for Britain (BBC), History Cold Case: The Ipswich Man (BBC) and Skeletons of the Mary Rose and Crossrail Discovery: London's Lost Graveyard (Channel 4).
Recent books include What is History Now (London: 2021), England's Other Countrymen: Black Tudor Society (London: 2019) and Blackamoores: Africans in Tudor England: Their Presence Status and Origins (London: 2013, 2014).
Onyeka has written over forty articles on Englishness, Britishness and historical method, which have appeared popular UK historical magazines and periodicals including History Today and the BBC History Magazine.
