Toju Duke

Toju Duke is recognised as one of the leading women in AI, and works as a speaker, author, thought leader, advisor and entrepreneur. She brings over 20 years of experience spanning advertising, retail, the not-for-profit sector and technology.

Toju spent a decade at Google, where her final years were focused on Responsible AI. As a Programme Manager, she led multiple Responsible AI initiatives across Google's product and research teams, with particular emphasis on frontier models and Responsible AI processes. Before moving into this research-focused role, she served as EMEA product lead for Google Travel and worked as a specialist across both Google Travel and Google Shopping.

Toju is the founder and CEO of Diverse AI, a community interest organisation dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups in building a more diverse and inclusive AI future, including through the creation of new, more representative datasets. She has also served as UK lead for Women in AI, a global non-profit focused on driving gender diversity within the industry.

Her commitment to Responsible AI led her to write, Building Responsible AI Algorithms, a book now used on university courses around the world. She followed this with, Responsible AI in Practice, co-authored with Professor Paolo Giudici, which offers practitioners in-depth guidance on evaluating machine learning models and applications — recognised as the first practical book on AI risk assessment and management.

Toju leads research into responsible practices for Generative AI, collaborating with both academic institutions and industry professionals, and has served on the programme committee for the AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics and Society.

She advises organisations on Responsible AI practices, AI readiness and governance, the future of AI and humanity, and AI-driven business transformation – helping them innovate profitably while building trust. Toju also delivers training, workshops and courses on AI, and takes part in high-level AI policy dialogues, advising governments on AI strategy and sovereignty.

Toju's expertise has seen her featured across major international media, including the BBC, Sky News, Al Jazeera and CGTN America, and she has been repeatedly recognised as one of the top women in AI by media outlets worldwide.
