About

Instantly recognisable for his many appearances on shows such as QI, Have I got News For You and Alan Davies’ As Yet Untitled. Ross Noble is an international powerhouse of live-performance

Ross rose to mainstream popularity through his live shows and stand-up specials which gained not only critical acclaim with a string of awards and nominations, but saw him become the biggest selling act at the Edinburgh and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals.

In the years since, Ross has become known as a truly exciting and genuinely original performer and has received huge critical acclaim. He is also a former Perrier Award nominee and a Time Out award winner for best live stand-up and has won a shed load of other prestigious awards and nominations.

Born in Newcastle upon Tyne and the son of two teachers, Ross displayed his talent for improvisation and performance at a very early age. It was during these unruly scamp-years that he was diagnosed with severe dyslexia, and made a conscious decision to follow a career – ANY career – that didn't involve staring at the insides of books for years on end.

And that is how the very young Ross Noble, instead of spending his down time playing Double Dragon 2 on the C64, became a unicycling street juggler with the grander aim of joining a circus. Sadly, that career path was never to be, although to this day he will still get teary-eyed about human cannonballs.

Everything changed after Ross went to see a stand-up comedy show. He was inspired, and at that moment decided to become a comedian himself. At first with props and juggling and visual gags, before he realised that he was spending increasing amounts of time just jabbering at the audience and making stuff up. Funny stuff. In fact, when it comes to embarking on epic, linguistic flights of fancy, he is very possibly Eddie Izzard's only rival.

Throughout his career, Ross Noble has concentrated on playing live, relentlessly touring his own shows and as a result has built an army of fans throughout the world. His appearances regularly break box office records.

In February 2004 BBC2 showed an hour long film of Ross performing live from his season at The Garrick Theatre, London. An extended version of this show was released on dvd in October 2004.

In 2007 he was voted the 10th-greatest stand-up comic on Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups, and again in the updated 2010 list as the 11th-greatest stand-up comic.

In 2009 Channel Five aired a new six-part series, Ross Noble’s Australian Trip, Ross combined two of his greatest passions – biking and comedy, undertaking an epic 26,000 kilometre, five month trip around Australia.

In 2012, he made his movie debut in the fantasy comedy horror movie Stitches. In 2015, he made his musical theatre debut in The Producers and in 2018 was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for his performance in Mel Brooks Young Frankenstein musical in the West End. His acting work also includes joining the cast of the legendary Comic strip team in The Hunt for Tony Blair.

Ross Noble's style is recognised as spontaneous, due to his unpredictable performance style, interruptions from hecklers or because he has drifted off into another surreal tangent. He also likes to have spontaneous material related to each specific show and therefore, unusually, actually encourages heckling.

Ross Noble is now perhaps the most successful cult comedian of our time, with a loyal fanbase derived largely from the ‘word-of-mouth’ recommendations of those having seen him perform live.

Performance

Ross Noble is one of the UK’s most experienced and versatile comedians. Highly sought-after for the unique ‘randomness’ of his sets, he’s perfectly at home with any live audience and presents a stand-up routine that is a largely improvised and surreal performance based around heckles and conversations with members of the audience.

Although Ross does often have a few set topics which he performs throughout a show, he describes the planning for the entire performance as "
about four words on a piece of scrap paper”.

Hecklers, it's fair to say, are the arch nemesis of most stand up comedians. Basically, they really would rather you didn't heckle during their performance. Except, that is, for Ross Noble. Previously voted the 10th-greatest stand-up comic on Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups, he’s a frantic comedy warlock who can magic up entire stand-up skits based on the resoundingly unfunny grunt of some beer-sodden IT manager in the third row.

This rare ability makes Ross Noble a gift to many a corporate event where the client’s first words uttered upon making an enquiry are “they can be a lively, if not rowdy bunch!” And that’s often putting it mildly.

Available to host and perform at a wide range of corporate events, Ross Noble would liven up any awards ceremony, office party, or corporate dinner, making it a fun-filled night to remember.

Testimonials

The night was fantastic, really well received by everybody here at MML... the Dynamo performance worked with him mingling as it created an atmosphere in amongst everybody. The Ross Noble second surprise worked really well too, a lot of people have said that it is someone that they would have loved to have seen but have not had the ability to do so – exactly what we want to achieve from the evening. So all in all, another very successful evening.

Debbie Penn - Maintenance Management Limited

The supreme master of spontaneous stand-up and the most exciting comic in the country.

Time Out, London

A natural comic with an instinctive gift for a vivid image. For once it is not hype to use the words 'comic genius

Evening Standard

All good comics are adept at weaving the odd heckler or late-comer into a stream of material. But I have never before seen anyone create an entire first half -- about 50 minutes -- from rapport with a couple of customers in the front stalls.

Daily Mail

Insane, but utterly brilliant.
